US steel mill shipments fall 6.7 percent in November

The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) announced on Tuesday that US steel mills shipped 7.4 million net tons (nt) in November 2011, a 6.7 percent decrease from October 2011 where US mills shipped 7.9 million nt and a 13.1 percent increase over November 2010.

Through November year-to-date, steel mill shipments totaled 83.7 million nt, a 9.8 percent increase compared to 2010 shipments of 76.3 million nt for the first eleven months of 2011. Hot rolled sheet shipments were down 3 percent, hot dipped galvanized sheets and strip shipments were down 5 percent and cold rolled sheet shipments were down 12 percent.
