US steel mill shipments fall 10.8 percent in February

The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) reported Friday that for the month of February 2015, US steel mills shipped 6,925,596 net tons, a 10.8 percent decrease from the 7,762,742 net tons shipped in the previous month, January 2015, and a 9.1 percent decrease from the 7,618,380 net tons shipped in February 2014. Shipments year-to-date in 2015 are 14,688,338 net tons, a 5.3 percent decrease vs. 2014 shipments of 15,513,673 net tons for two months.

A comparison of February shipments to the previous month of January shows the following changes: hot rolled sheets, down 9 percent, cold rolled sheets, down 9 percent and hot dipped galvanized sheets and strip, down 10 percent.
