US steel mill shipments down 3.5 percent in February

The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) reported Wednesday that for the month of February 2014, US steel mills shipped 7,618,380 net tons, a 3.5 percent decrease from the 7,895,293 net tons shipped in the previous month, January 2014, and a 2.4 percent increase from the 7,436,388 net tons shipped in February 2013. Shipments year-to-date in 2014 are 15,513,673 net tons, a 0.9 percent decrease vs. 2013 shipments of 15,674,114 net tons for two months.

A comparison of February shipments to the previous month of January shows the following changes: hot dipped galvanized sheets and strip, down 1.0 percent, hot rolled sheet, down 3.0 percent and cold rolled sheet, down 4.0 percent.
