US steel exports fall 2.5 percent in April

According to US export data, monthly steel exports in April decreased 2.5 percent from March to total 720,792 mt. A year-on-year comparison shows a 5.9 percent decline. Exports to Mexico increased 5.4 percent from the preceding month to 276,741 mt, but this was 8.1 percent less than April 2015. Exports to Canada increased by 2.4 percent month-on-month to 372,255 mt, which is up 0.6 percent from a year earlier.

Other major destinations for US steel exports in April include: India, at 8,655 mt; China, at 5,016 mt; Korea, at 4,530 mt; Germany, at 3,889 mt; and Belgium, at 3,387 mt.

Major products exported in April include HDG, at 108,468 mt; cut-length plates, at 85,069 mt; cold rolled sheets, at 54,023 mt; hot rolled sheets, at 50,060 mt; and hot rolled bars, at 33,926 mt.
