US steel exports drop 9.5 percent in June

According to US export data, monthly steel exports in June decreased 9.5 percent from May to total 826,435 mt. A year-on-year comparison shows a 12.3 percent increase. In terms of value, US steel exports in June totaled $1.06 billion, compared to $1.22 billion in May and $941.3 million in June 2016.

Steel exports to Canada in June decreased 24.6 percent from the preceding month to 391,189 mt, but increased 4.2 percent from June 2016. Exports to Mexico increased by 18.8 percent month-on-month to 346,521 mt, which is up 20.9 percent from the same month a year ago. 

Other top destinations for US steel exports in June include: India, with 8,895 mt; China, with 7,305 mt; Belgium, with 7,269 mt; Honduras, with 5,903 mt; and Brazil, with 4,527 mt.

Major steel products exported in June include HDG, at 112,761 mt; cut-length plates, at 98,504 mt; hot rolled sheets, at 78,899 mt; plates in coils, at 59,347 mt; and cold rolled sheets, at 51,515 mt.
