US Steel Corp’s underperforming Serbian plant leads to cutbacks

On Friday, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania-based US Steel Corporation announced that their Serbian plant, US Steel Serbia, is reducing the number of hours in their work week to reduce costs. The plant, located in Smederevo, Serbia, has been producing below its annual capacity for the past five years.

US Steel blames slow economic growth and low import costs for the below-par production of the plant, and plans to cut back to a four-day work week for most of the plant's employees.
