US scrap import volume increased 26 percent in H1

US scrap import volumes increased to 2,501,008 mt in H1 2017, up 26.48 percent compared to the 1,977,348 mt import total in the same period the previous year. By value, US scrap imports increased by 70 percent to $777 million in H1 2017 from $459 million in H1 2016.

The same five destinations dominated both H1 2016 (94 percent of share) and H1 2017 (98 percent of share) in terms of volume. In terms of value, the five destinations contributed 98 percent in H1 2017 and 97 percent in the same period year-on-year.
