US scrap export volume down 18.9 percent in April

According to the statistics released by the US International Trade Commission (US ITC), in April this year US scrap exports amounted to 1.5 million metric tons, falling by 14 percent from the previous month and down 18.9 percent year on year. In the first four months of the year, the US exported 6.2 million mt of steel scrap, falling 9.3 percent compared to the first four months of 2012.

In April this year, US scrap exports to Turkey amounted to 504,510 metric tons, decreasing 18.3 percent year on year. US scrap exports to Taiwan in the month in question decreased by 19.6 percent year on year, amounting to 241,685 metric tons.

Meanwhile, in the given month, US scrap exports to China dropped by 27.5 percent year on year, totaling 129,481 metric tons, while US scrap exports to South Korea in April amounted to 109,415 metric tons, down 48.7 percent compared to April 2012.
