US rig counts fall for third consecutive week while Canadian drilling improves

Baker Hughes reported Friday that for the week ending December 14, the US rig count fell by one to 1,799, following an 11-rig decrease a week ago and a six-rig drop the week prior. On a year-on-year basis, the US rig count is down 220 rigs. Rigs drilling for oil totaled 1,381, down one from last week, while gas rigs also lost one unit, dropping to 416.

Meanwhile, Canada's rig count was 418, up 12 from last week but down 113 year-on-year. There were 289 rigs drilling for oil and 129 drilling for natural gas.
