Baker Hughes has reported that for the week ending May 12, the
US rotary rig count increased by eight to 885 following a seven-rig increase the week before. The number of rigs drilling for gas decreased by one to 172, while the number of rigs drilling for oil increased by nine to 712. The overall rig count is now up by 479 rigs in a year-on-year comparison.
Meanwhile, the Canadian rig count dropped by two to 80 rigs in the week ending May 12, following a three-rig decrease the week before. The Canadian rig count is now up by 37 rigs from the same week a year ago.
