US rig count reverses uptrend while Canadian count surges

Baker Hughes has reported that for the week ending August 26, the US rotary rig count decreased by two to 489 following a 10-rig increase the week before. The number of rigs drilling for gas dropped by two to 81, while the number of rigs drilling for oil remained stable at 406. The overall rig count is still down by 388 rigs, year-on-year.
 
Meanwhile, the Canadian rig count increased by 25 in the week ending August 26 to 146 following a five-rig decrease the week before. The Canadian rig count is still down by 50 from the same week a year ago.
