US rig count maintains uptrend while Canadian count continues to drop

Baker Hughes has reported that for the week ending March 10 the US rotary rig count increased by 12 to 768 following a two-rig increase the week before. The number of rigs drilling for gas increased by five to 151, while the number of rigs drilling for oil increased by eight to 617. The overall rig count is now up by 288 rigs in a year-on-year comparison.
 
Meanwhile, the Canadian rig count decreased by 20 to 315 rigs in the week ending March 10, following a six-rig decrease the week before. The Canadian rig count is now up by 217 rigs from the same week a year ago.
