US rig count increases slightly while Canadian count gets substantial lift

Baker Hughes has reported that for the week ending December 2, the US rotary rig count increased by four to 597 following a five-rig increase the week before. The number of rigs drilling for gas increased by one to 119, while the number of rigs drilling for oil increased by three to 477. The overall rig count is still down by 140 rigs, year-on-year.
 
Meanwhile, the Canadian rig count increased by 26 to 200 rigs in the week ending December 2, following a 10-rig decrease the week before. The Canadian rig count is now up by 23 rigs from the same week a year ago.
