US rebar imports surge 123.8 percent in June

According to preliminary census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of rebar totaled 179,905 mt in June 2017, up 123.8 percent from May but down 5.6 percent from June 2016 levels. By value, rebar imports totaled $85.6 million in June 2017, compared to $36.5 million in the previous month and $71.8 million in the same month last year.

The US imported the most rebar from Turkey in June, with 101,700 mt, compared to 59,569 mt in May and 108,932 mt in June 2016. Other top sources of imported rebar in June include Portugal, with 31,858 mt; Peru, with 16,992 mt; Italy, with 9,881 mt; Taiwan, with 7,996 mt; and Brazil, with 5,037 mt.
