US raw steel production falls week-on-week

In the week ending June 7, 2014, US domestic raw steel production was 1,845,000 net tons while the capability utilization rate was 76.7 percent, according to a report Monday from the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI). Production was 1,824,000 net tons in the week ending June 7, 2013, while the capability utilization then was 76.1 percent. The current week production represents a 1.2 percent increase from the same period in the previous year. Production for the week ending June 7, 2014 is down 2.6 percent from the previous week ending May 31, 2014 when production was 1,895,000 net tons and the rate of capability utilization was 78.8 percent.

Adjusted year-to-date production through June 7, 2014 was 41.3 million net tons, at a capability utilization rate of 76.3 percent. That is a 0.3 percent decrease from the 41.5 million net tons during the same period last year, when the capability utilization rate was 76.7 percent.
