US raw steel production falls slightly week-on-week, year-on-year

According to data from the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI), for the week ending July 9, domestic raw steel production was 1,712,000 net tons while the capability utilization rate was 73.2 percent. Production for the week ending July 9, 2016 was 1,750,000 net tons in the while the capability utilization then was 73.2 percent. The current week production represents a 2.2 percent decrease from the same period in the previous year. Production for the week ending July 9, 2016 is down 1.4 percent from the previous week when production was 1,737,000 net tons and the rate of capability utilization was 74.3 percent.

Adjusted year-to-date production through July 9, 2016 was 47,454,000 net tons, at a capability utilization rate of 72.5 percent. That is down 0.8 percent from the 47,823,000 net tons during the same period last year, when the capability utilization rate was 72.3 percent.

Broken down by districts, here's production for the week ending July 9, 2016 in thousands of net tons: North East: 201; Great Lakes: 675; Midwest: 161; Southern: 596 and Western: 79 for a total of 1712.
