The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) reported Monday that US raw steel production fell 1.4 percent last week (ended May 19), following a 2.1 percent increase the previous week.
Total raw steel production in the United States amounted to 1,976,000 net tons (nt) last week, representing a 1.4 percent decrease from the 2,005,000 nt produced in the previous week, and an 11.1 percent increase from the 1,778,000 nt produced in the same week of last year.
The capacity utilization rate of US raw steelmaking facilities was 80 percent in the week ending May 19, compared to 81.1 percent in the previous week and 72.7 percent in the same week of last year.
