The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) reported Monday that US raw steel production fell last week (ended August 27), with output dropping 1.4 percent from the previous week. In the prior week (ended August 20), US raw steel production had increase 0.3 percent compared to the week before.
Total raw steel production in the United States amounted to 1,861,000 net tons (nt) last week, representing a 1.4 percent decline from the 1,888,000 nt produced in the previous week, and a 13 percent increase from the 1,647,000 nt produced in the same week of last year.
The capacity utilization rate of US raw steelmaking facilities was 76.1 percent in the week ending August 27, compared to 77.2 percent in the previous week and 68.1 percent in the same week of last year.
