US raw steel production edges up week-on-week

According to the American Iron and Steel Institute, in the week ending March 1, 2014, US domestic raw steel production was 1,861,000 net tons while the capability utilization rate was 77.4 percent. Production was 1,875,000 net tons in the week ending March 1, 2013, while the capability utilization then was 78.3 percent. The current week production represents a 0.7 percent decrease from the same period in the previous year. Production for the week ending March 1, 2014 is up 1.6 percent from the previous week ending February 22, 2014 when production was 1,831,000 net tons and the rate of capability utilization was 76.3 percent.

Adjusted year-to-date production through March 1, 2014 was 15,711,000 net tons, at a capability utilization rate of 76.5 percent. That is a 1.0 percent decrease from the 15,873,000 net tons during the same period last year, when the capability utilization rate was 77.3 percent.
