US raw steel production dips week-on-week

According to the American Iron and Steel Institute, in the week ending November 29, 2014, US domestic raw steel production was 1,835,000 net tons while the capability utilization rate was 76.3 percent. Production was 1,826,000 net tons in the week ending November 29, 2013, while the capability utilization then was 76.2 percent. The current week production represents a 0.5 percent increase from the same period in the previous year. Production for the week ending November 29, 2014 is down 2.5 percent from the previous week ending November 22, 2014 when production was 1,882,000 net tons and the rate of capability utilization was 78.2 percent.

Adjusted year-to-date production through November 29, 2014 was 88,123,000 net tons, at a capability utilization rate of 77.1 percent. That is up 0.5 percent from the 87,658,000 net tons during the same period last year, when the capability utilization rate was 76.9 percent.
