US raw steel down slightly week-on-week, but shows year-on-year gains

According to the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI), in the week ending on November 12, 2016, US domestic raw steel production was 1,580,000 net tons while the capability utilization rate was 66.6 percent.

Production was 1,500,000 net tons in the week ending November 12, 2015 while the capability utilization then was 62.7 percent. The current week production represents a 5.3 percent increase from the same period in the previous year.

Production for the week ending November 12, 2016 is down 1.4 percent from the previous week ending November 5, 2016 when production was 1,602,000 net tons and the rate of capability utilization was 67.5 percent.
 
Adjusted year-to-date production through November 12, 2016 was 76,707,000 net tons, at a capability utilization rate of 71.2 percent. That is down 1.6 percent from the 77,988,000 net tons during the same period last year, when the capability utilization rate was 70.9 percent.
