The annual rate of public construction spending was $282 billion in April, 1.9 percent (±2.2 percent) below the March estimate of $287.4 billion according to data released Wednesday by the US Census Bureau of the US Department of Commerce.
Spending on private construction rose 1.7 percent (±1.4 percent) to $483 billion in April with residential construction leading the way, rising 3.1 percent (±1.3 percent) to $242.1 billion. Nonresidential construction totaled $250.8 billion in April, 0.5 percent (±1.4 percent) above the March estimate of $249.6 billion.
Total US construction spending during April was estimated at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of $765 billion, 0.4 percent (±1.6 percent) above the revised March estimate of $762.1 billion. April spending is 9.3 percent (±1.6 percent) below April 2010 spending of $843.1 billion.
