US ITC may keep duties on CTL plates from six countries

Sources report that the US International Trade Commission (ITC) last week received sufficient evidence in support of keeping the current duties on cut-to-length (CTL) steel plates imported from France, Italy, Japan, South Korea, India, and Indonesia. The parties, who support the duties, claimed that the duties on CTL plate lowered the imports from the subject countries by 90 percent. Statistically, the imports fell from 1.1 million tons seven years ago to about 110'000 tons annually between 2000 and 2004. The parties in favor of duties also asserted that the revocation of the duties would weaken the industry and injure the local producers, causing unfair trade.
