US iron ore output down 5.6 percent in March from February

US iron ore production in March this year amounted to 2.85 million mt, decreasing by 5.6 percent compared to February and down 38.5 percent year on year, according to figures from the Mineral Industry Survey released by the US Geological Survey (USGS). Meanwhile, US iron ore export shipments in March this year totaled 1.31 million mt, increasing by 1,135 percent compared to the previous month and up by 95 percent compared to March 2015. 
 
In the first three months of this year, US iron ore production totaled 9.01 million mt, falling by 30.6 percent compared to the January-March period of 2015, while US iron ore export shipments amounted to 3.12 million mt, decreasing by 10.3 percent year on year.
