US iron and steel scrap exports fall 6.5 percent in May

According to the latest figures from the US International Trade Commission, US iron and steel scrap exports totaled 1,099,822 mt in May, a 6.5 percent decrease month-on-month and a 17.2 percent decrease year-on-year.

India was the largest recipient of US iron and scrap exports in May with 177,813 mt, which surged up 181.8 percent month-on-month and increased 55.7 percent year-on-year. Other notable destinations in May include: Turkey, with 177,202 mt; Mexico, with 154,065 mt; Taiwan, with 128,225 mt; and Canada, with 89,557 mt.

In terms of value, US iron and steel scrap exports totaled $363.9 million in May, a 10.3 percent decrease compared to April and a 6.6 percent decrease compared to May 2016.
