According to the statistics released by the US International Trade Commission (US ITC), in December last year exports of iron and steel scrap from the US amounted to 1.57 million mt, increasing 26.78 percent from November and down 2.31 percent compared to December 2012. The value of these exports increased by 24.84 percent month on month and decreased by 5.54 percent year on year, amounting to $631.48 million.
Meanwhile in 2013, exports of iron and steel scrap from the US totaled 18.50 million mt, decreasing by 13.56 percent compared to 2012. The value of these exports decreased by 19.75 percent year on year, falling to $7.57 billion.
Last year, Turkey was the leading scrap export destination of the US, importing 5.23 million mt, recording an 18.25 percent fall compared to 2012, while the value of these exports totaled $1.88 million, down 25.03 percent. Meanwhile, in given year Taiwan imported 3.02 million mt of scrap from the US, down 13.87 percent year on year.
