US HRC imports fall 29.6 percent in February

According to preliminary census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of hot rolled sheets totaled 101,361 mt in February 2017, down 29.6 percent from January and down 55.5 percent from February 2016 levels. By value, HRC imports totaled $60.7 million in February 2017, compared to $78.4 million in the previous month and $103.7 million in the same month last year.
 
The US imported the most HRC from Canada in February, with 57,577 mt, compared to 82,523 mt in January and 61,868 mt in February 2016. Other top sources of imported HRC in February include Japan, with 18,434 mt; Mexico, with 5,769 mt; Netherlands, with 5,453 mt; Egypt, with 4,731 mt; and Germany, with 1,921 mt.
