US HDG imports rise 22.8 percent in April

According to preliminary census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of HDG sheets and strip totaled 298,692 mt in April 2017, up 22.8 percent from March and up 36.9 percent from April 2016 levels. By value, HDG imports totaled $255.5 million in April 2017, compared to $211.3 million in the previous month and $150.8 million in the same month last year.
 
The US imported the most HDG from Canada in April, with 73,950 mt, compared to 74,658 mt in March and 65,691 mt in April 2016. Other top sources of imported HDG in April include Turkey, with 31,484 mt; South Africa, with 28,401 mt; Taiwan, with 26,238 mt; Brazil, with 17,544 mt; and UAE, with 14,358 mt.
