According to preliminary census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of HDG sheets and strip totaled 271,856 mt in June 2017, down 6.9 percent from May but up 19.3 percent from June 2016 levels. By value, HDG imports totaled $245.8 million in June 2017, compared to $255.9 million in the previous month and $164.6 million in the same month last year.
The US imported the most HDG from Canada in June, with 70,709 mt, compared to 77,399 mt in May and 77,477 mt in June 2016. Other top sources of imported HDG in June include Brazil, with 34,957 mt; Taiwan, with 25,714 mt; Turkey, with 24,138 mt; Korea, with 16,258 mt; and Vietnam, with 10,040 mt.
