A US-based company which designs tracking solutions for the steel and concrete industries has announced the release of a RFID (radio frequency identification) system for steel fabricators.
International Coding Technologies says its product, Steel-Code, will provide steel fabricators with complete product identification and tracking through the entire process from drawings, to customer, to job site. A single tag provides a human readable format, with a bar code and RFID. The label is sealed in a ruggedized, watertight, dust-proof plastic unit that is permanently attached to the steel structure, allowing it to track the structure from inception to jobsite in real-time, while withstanding the rigors of a construction environment.
International Coding Technologies explained the need for such a RFID tracking system for the steel industry in a press release. "The steel industry struggles with workflow tracking as well as job site locating and sequencing," said the company. "Current systems are manual and provide little or no real time production data or location data. Often times, this causes expensive delays locating missing fabrications and costly rebuilds or double builds."
