On January 3, 2006, the US Department of Commerce (DOC) initiated and the International Trade Commission (ITC) instituted a five-year review (“sunset”) of the antidumping duty order on silicon metal from Brazil and China. As previously reported by SteelOrbis, the ITC, on November 15, 2006, determined that revocation of the existing antidumping duty order on silicon metal from China would be likely to lead to a continuation or recurrence of material injury to US domestic industries, but revocation of the antidumping duty order on silicon metal from Brazil would not. Upon ITC determinations, the DOC has today revoked the order with respect to Brazil. Moreover, the DOC has ordered the continuation of the order with respect to China.
