US Department of Defense announces latest contract awards

On September 29 the United States Department of Defense released a list of over 50 contract awards granted to new developments and construction projects all over the country for companies such as the National Steel and Shipbuilding Company, Vet Industrial, and Sauer, Inc.

San Diego, California's National Steel and Shipbuilding Company, is being awarded a $40,706,200 modification to previously awarded contract (N00024-07-C-4013) for maintenance, repairs, and alterations on the USS Bonhomme Richard (LHD 6) for LHA/LHD class ships home ported in San Diego, California.  This includes alterations and modifications that will update and improve the ship's military and technical capabilities.   Work at the National Steel and Shipbuilding Company will be performed in San Diego, California, and is expected to be completed by July 2011.  Contract funds in the amount of $40,706,200 will expire at the end of the current fiscal year.
 
Milford, Main-based Consigli Construction Company is being awarded $16,921,279 for a previously awarded multiple award construction contract for design and construction of a waterfront support facility at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard.  The award is specifically geared towards the design and construction of a two-story steel framed addition on the east side of the existing high bay of Building 174, renovation of a portion of the high bay which will support waterfront repair operations for naval nuclear submarines.  Work is expected to be completed by September 2012.

Sauer, Inc., based in Jacksonville, Florida was awarded $6,661,700 firm-fixed-price contract.  This project includes two one-story and a new two-story rigid steel frame for Sauer, and 33,723 square foot facility additions for important support sections. Site improvements, upgrades, mechanical and architectural features, fire detection/protection systems, communications, public address systems, audio-visual, classrooms, conference room, latrines, parachute heavy drop area, showers, offices are also included. The project also plans to include the restoration of 56,285 square feet of existing space for mission support elements.   Work will be performed in Fort Bragg, North Carolina, with an estimated completion date of March 29, 2012. 

Skanska USA Civil Southeast, Inc. in Virginia Beach, Virginia, is being awarded a $164,321,000 firm-fixed-price contract for construction of Pier 5 ship repair replacement at Naval Support Activity Norfolk Naval Shipyard.  The award is aimed at construction of a new ship repair Pier 5 to include salt water pump station building, as well as demolition of certain existing piers and buildings. Operations are to be performed in Portsmouth, Virginia and are expected to be completed by November 2014. 

Honolulu, Hawaii- based Manson-Nan Hawaii, JV, is being awarded $15,850,032 for a previously awarded construction contract for the design and construction of a new production services support facility to support production shops and work to complete serious maintenance on surface ships and submarines at the Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard and the Intermediate Maintenance Facility.  The work to be performed provides for the design and construction of a new facility and work will be performed in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, and is expected to be completed by June 2012.

San Bernardino, California-based Allen Engineering Contractor, Inc. is being awarded $14,075,225 for design and construction of a wheeled vehicle maintenance sunshade facility at a Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center.  Work will be performed in Twenty-nine Palms, California, and is expected to be completed by October 2012.

Venegas Engineering Management & Construction in El Paso, Texas, was awarded  a $23,069,995 firm-fixed-price contract for construction of a new border patrol station for approximately 375 agents in Lordsburg, New Mexico.  Work is to be performed in Lordsburg, N.M., with an estimated completion date of Dec. 1, 2012. 

Balfour Beatty Construction in Fairfax, Virginia was awarded a $13,744,600 contract to design and construct 525 battlefield surveillance brigades, tactical equipment maintenance facility. Construction will be executed in Fort Bragg, North Carolina with an estimated completion date of Nov. 30, 2011. 

Greenville, South Carolina- based Fluor Intercontinental, Inc. was awarded a $13,476,646 cost-plus-fixed-fee contract.  The award is to be put towards maintenance, repair, and minor construction of buildings and structures at Fluor Intercontinental.  Work will be performed in Greenville, with an estimated completion date of March 21, 2011.

Nickerson & O'Day, Inc. in Brewer, Maine, was awarded a $13,210,052 contract for the construction of the Regional Training Institute Phase II, for the Maine Army National Guard.  Work on the facility will be performed in Bangor, Maine, with an estimated completion date of July 12, 2012. 

Anderson Drace, JV, in Gulfport, Mississippi was awarded a 11,778,660 contract for the design/construction of a central demilitarization process center at McAlester Army Ammunition Plant McAlester. Work is to be performed in McAlester, Oklahoma with an estimated completion date of May 18, 2011.

Vet Industrial, Inc. in Bremerton, Washington was awarded a $10,946,800 contract for the design and construction of approximately 40,877 square foot company operations facilities for two companies, and demolition of four other buildings.  The design and construction of the facilities will take place in McChord, Washington with an estimated completion date of Oct. 31, 2012. 

Lodi, New Jersey-based Montana Construction, Inc. was awarded a $10,172,200 for the"Green Brook Flood Damage Reduction Project-Segment B-1, Sebring Mills Road Bridge Reconstruction, Floodwall, Levee and Pump Station, Middlesex and Green Brook, N.J."  The work will be split between Middlesex, New Jersey and Green Brook New Jersey, with an estimated completion date of Oct. 1, 2013.
