US and Canadian rig counts log week-on-week increase

Baker Hughes reported Friday that for the week ending February 15, the US rig count increased by three to 1,762, following a five-rig drop the week prior.  During the past week, 421 rigs were drilling for gas, down four from last week while the oil-directed rig count rose by seven to 1,337.

Canada's rig count increased by 20 to 651, following a six-rig increase last week and a four-rig increase the week prior. Even so, Canada's rig count was down 54 rigs year-on-year.
