In August this year, the unemployment rate of the 34 Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) member countries remained stable at 7.9 percent as compared to July, according to new figures published by the OECD. The number of employed in the OECD region indicated an increase of 13.1 million in August this year as compared to July 2008.
In August, the unemployment rate for the euro area was stable at 12 percent, having declined by 0.1 percent in July from June.
In August this year, the unemployment rate in the US decreased by 0.1 percentage point to 7.3 percent, while it also decreased by 0.1 percentage point in Canada to 7.1 percent, both month on month. In August, the unemployment rate in Japan increased by 0.3 percentage points month on month to 4.1 percent.
