Ukrainian metallurgists federation calls for higher scrap export tax

Ukraine's Federation of Metallurgists has requested an increase in the export tax on scrap up to €30/mt, as announced by the federation's chairman Sergey Belenkiy.
 
Media reports indicate that Ukraine's minister of economic development and trade Aivaras Abromavicius is in favor of increasing the export tax on scrap to a minimum of €20/mt.

According to the Ukrainian association of metal producers Metallurgprom, steel scrap needs in the country in May this year totaled 384,000 mt, while the actual deliveries to the domestic market amounted to 326,000 mt. According to Ukraine's statistics data, in May of the current year 104,000 mt of steel scrap was exported, while scrap exports in the first five months reached 509,000 mt.
