Ukrainian steelmakers issue Jan-Nov output data

The major Ukrainian steelmakers have released their preliminary production results for the first eleven months of 2008.

Accordingly, during the given period Ilyich Iron and Steel Works of Mariupol (Ilyich) reduced its finished steel products output by 19.6 percent and its pipe production by 25.8 percent year on year, to 4.025 million mt and 90,500 mt respectively. Ilyich's crude steel production decreased by 16.6 percent, its pig iron output by 14.4 percent and its agglomerate production by 7.19 percent, year on year. The respective figures in metric tons were 5.301 million, 4.249 million and 10.86 million.

During the first eleven months of 2008, Azovstal decreased its crude steel output by 7.9 percent to 5.290 million metric tons, pig iron production by 10.7 percent to 4.415 million mt and its finished steel production by 4.2 percent to 4.855 million mt, all compared to corresponding period of 2007. Meanwhile, Azovstal's agglomerate production stands at the level of last year, i.e., at 1.780 million metric tons.

In January-November 2008, mini-mill ISTIL produced 959,000 metric tons of finished steel - up 8.1 percent year on year, and 973,000 metric tons of crude steel - up 2.85 percent.

During the first eleven months of 2008, ArcelorMittal Kriviy Rih produced 5.094 million mt of finished steel - down 21.9 percent, 5.967 million mt of crude steel - down 19.77 percent, 5.383 million mt of pig iron - down 18.7 percent and 8.103 million mt of agglomerate - down 17.02 percent, all compared to the first eleven months of 2007.

In the first eleven months of 2008, Makeevsk MZ decreased its finished steel output by 15.7 percent to 830,000 metric tons, crude steel production by 22.88 percent to 1.254 million metric tons, and its pig iron production by 25.56 percent to 1.267 million metric tons, all compared to the corresponding period of 2007.

In January-November 2008, Zaporizhstal decreased its finished steel production by 12.16 percent and its crude steel production by 10.7 percent year on year, to 3.007 million mt and 3.658 million mt respectively. Zaporizhstal's agglomerate production went down by 3.95 percent and its pig iron production declined by 7.9 percent year on year. The respective figures in metric tons were 4.989 million and 3.033 million.

During the first eleven months of the current year, Alchevsk Iron and Steel Works (Alchevsk) increased its pig iron production by 21.1 percent, its crude steel production by 15.3 percent, its finished steel production by 15.7 percent but reduced its agglomerate production by 9.7 percent year on year. The respective figures in million metric tons were 3.584, 4.130, 3.725 and 4.057.

During the period in question, Yenakievo Iron and Steel Works (EMZ) increased its pig iron production by eight percent to 2.38 million mt, its crude steel production by 0.6 percent to 2.535 million mt, its finished steel output by 0.3 percent to 2.52 million mt, while its agglomerate production decreased by 8.68 percent to 1.874 million mt, all compared with the same period last year.
