The major Ukrainian steelmakers have released their preliminary production results for January-May 2008.
Accordingly, during the given period Ilyich Iron and Steel Works of Mariupol (Ilyich) reduced its finished steel products output by 2.1 percent year on year, but increased its pig iron production by 1.86 percent, its crude steel output by two percent, its agglomerate production by 15.3 percent and its pipe output by one percent. The respective figures in metric tons were 2.27 million, 2.998 million, 2.35 million, 5.77 million and 49,700.
During the first five months of 2008, Enakievsk increased finished steel output by 10.5 percent to 1.273 million metric tons, crude steel production by 13.9 percent to 1.286 million metric tons, and pig iron production by 26.2 percent to 1.218 metric tons, all compared to corresponding period of 2007.
In January-May 2008, Zaporizhstal decreased its finished steel production by 1.22 percent, retained its crude steel production, but increased its agglomerate production by 2.6 percent and its pig iron production by 0.4 percent year on year. The respective figures in metric tons were 1.533 million, 1.865 million, 2.401 million, and 1.509 million.
During the period in question, mini-mill ISTIL produced 443,000 metric tons of finished steel - up 13 percent, and 445,000 metric tons of crude steel - up 7.5 percent.
In January-May 2008, Alchevsk Iron and Steel Works (Alchevsk) increased its pig iron production by 54.6 percent, its crude steel production by 37.4 percent, its finished steel production by 41.3 percent but reduced its agglomerate production by one percent year on year. The respective figures in million metric tons were 1.899, 2.151, 1.98 and 2.09.
