Ukrainian steelmakers issue Jan-Feb 2008 output data

The major Ukrainian steelmakers have released their preliminary production results for January-February 2008.

Accordingly, during the given period Ilyich Iron and Steel Works of Mariupol (Ilyich) reduced its finished steel products output by 2.4 percent year on year, its pig iron production by 1.2 percent, its crude steel output by 0.5 percent but increased its agglomerate production by 20.3 percent. The respective figures in metric tons were 896,000, 910,000, 1.16 million, and 2.227 million.

During the period in question, Azovstal registered a 7.4 percent increase in its finished steel products output, a 4.2 percent rise in crude steel production, a 0.1 percent increase in pig iron production and a 1.8 percent decrease in its metallurgical coke production, compared to the same period in 2007. The respective figures in metric tons stood at 891,000, 1.004 million, 839,000 and 407,000.

In January-February 2008, Makeevsk produced 171,000 metric tons of finished steel products - up 19.6 percent, 287,000 metric tons of crude steel - up 2.1 percent, and 272,000 metric tons of pig iron - up 7.5 percent, all compared to January-February 2007.

During the given period, ArcelorMittal Kriviy Rih registered a 2.2 percent decrease in its finished steel production, a 6.7 percent reduction in its crude steel production, a 7.5 percent decrease in its pig iron production and a 9.1 percent decrease in its agglomerate production year on year. The respective figures in metric tons were 1.15 million, 1.3 million, 1.13 million and 1.8 million.

During the first two months of 2007, Enakievsk increased finished steel output by 8.2 percent to 495,980 metric tons, crude steel production by 15.2 percent to 498,200 metric tons, and pig iron production by 28.6 percent to 478,000 metric tons, all compared to corresponding period of 2008.

In January-February 2008, Zaporizhstal decreased its finished steel production by 2.2 percent, its crude steel production by 0.7 percent and its agglomerate production by 5.5 percent, but increased its pig iron production by 1.4 percent year on year. The respective figures in metric tons were 590,000, 716,000, 902,000, and 578,000.

During the period in question, mini-mill ISTIL produced 177,000 metric tons of finished steel - up 22.9 percent, and 181,000 metric tons of crude steel - up 27.5 percent.
