Ukrainian finished steel output to drop slightly in February

According to the Ukrainian association of metal producers Metallurgprom, in February this year Ukraine's crude steel production will rise by 1.1 percent compared to December 2011 to 2.790 million mt.

According to Metallurgprom's forecast, pig iron output in Ukraine will total 2.350 million mt in February (down 1.01 percent compared to December), while production of rolled steel is expected to be 2.5 million mt (down 1.96 percent compared to December).

In 2011, Ukraine registered three percent growth in its finished steel product output to 31.677 million mt, a six percent increase in its crude steel output to 34.689 million mt, and a six percent rise in its pig iron production to 28.879 million mt, all compared to 2010.

In December alone, Ukraine produced 2.550 million mt of finished steel products - down 3.1 percent, 2.759 million mt of crude steel - down 4.1 percent, and 2.374 million mt of pig iron - down 1.9 percent, all on month-on-month basis.

In January this year, Ukraine expects to produce 2.510 million mt of finished steel products, 2.820 million mt of crude steel and 2.370 million mt of pig iron.
