Ukraine's steel and pig iron production fell 3% in Q1

Ukrainian metallurgical enterprises' steel and pig iron production fell 3 percent year on year to 9.426 million tons and 7.652 million tons respectively in the first quarter of 2006. In the given period, the production of finished steel products decreased from 8.092 million tons to 8.089 million tons. Total pipe production rose 7 percent year on year to 551,000 tons in the first quarter of 2006. Coke and ferroalloys output decreased 12 percent and 17 percent to 4.568 million tons and 348,000 tons respectively during the same period.
