The Ukrainian association of metal producers Metallurgprom has announced that in the first half of this year exports of rolled steel by Ukrainian metallurgical enterprises declined by two percent year on year to 11.550 million mt, including 5.480 million mt of semi-finished steel products.

In the given period, Ukraine's steelmakers increased their exports of pig iron by 31 percent year on year to 1.350 million mt, while their exports of ferroalloys rose by 23 percent year on year to 415,000 mt.

In the first half of the current year, the Ukrainian steel industry exported 85 percent of its products compared to 82 percent exported in January-June 2013.

In the first half this year, Ukraine's exports of rolled steel to CIS countries declined by 38 percent compared to the same period last year to 1.5 million mt, including 1.2 million mt to Russia, down 33 percent year on year.

Ukraine may cut its steel exports to Russia further after entering into an agreement with the European Union for free trade and association between Ukraine and the EU.
