According to the data released by the Ukrainian association of metal producers Metallurgprom, in the January-March period of the current year Ukraine exported 4.9 million mt of iron and steel products, down 24.6 percent year on year, worth a total of $2.1 billion, down 38.2 percent year on year.
In particular, in the given period Ukraine exported 4 million mt of rolled steel (including 1.9 million mt of semi-finished products), down 28 percent, 430,000 mt of pig iron, down 23 percent, and 220,000 mt of ferroalloys, up 11 percent, all on year-on-year basis.
In first quarter this year, Ukrainian exports of flat steel products decreased by 33 percent, its export of semi-finished products went down by 33 percent, and its export of long steel products declined by 10 percent, all on year-on-year basis.
In addition, Ukrainian iron and exports in the first quarter were equivalent to 89 percent of total domestic iron and steel production in the given quarter.
In the first three months of this year, Ukrainian iron and steel imports came to approximately 155,000 mt, worth a total of $140 million, down 57 percent year on year.
