Ukraine’s cast iron output falls in June

SteelOrbis is informed that Ukraine's cast iron production fell 13.5 percent from 2.52 million tons in May to 2.18 million tons in June. For the first six months of the year, the country's cast iron production amounted to 15.3 million tons. This represents a year-on-year rise 1.4 percent. Kryvorizhstal, Ukraine's largest steelmaker, produced 392'000 tons cast iron during June. This figure indicates a 22.5 percent decline compared to May's production of 505'900 tons. The country's other major steelmaker Azovstal's cast iron production fell 9.5 percent from 434'700 tons in May to 393'400 tons in June. Azovstal's cast iron production amounted to 4.79 million tons in 2004 and is expected to produce 5.58 million tons of cast iron in 2005. Ukraine's cast iron production reached 32.7 million tons in 2004, up 5.2 percent from 31.1 million tons recorded in 2003.
