Ukraine keeps ferrous scrap prices unchanged for February

Major Ukrainian metallurgical companies agreed last week that operations with scrap ferrous metals in February should be carried out at the same prices as those of scrap metal in January, which are currently UAH 850 per ton (168$). The decision to retain the current scrap ferrous metal prices was made at a conference of representatives from the Ukrainian mining and metallurgical industry in Dnipropetrovsk last week. In line with the statistics, about 6.4 million tons of scrap metal were delivered to Ukrainian enterprises during 2005 which accounts for about 530,000 tons per month on average. As previously reported by SteelOrbis, the recommended price for scrap delivers during the November-December period was at UAH 930/mt ($184). Meanwhile, a representative for the Ukrainian Scrap Metals Association reportedly demanded that Metallurgprom to set a scrap metal supply quota for the first half of this year, since scrap metal resources are decreasing in Ukraine.
