According to the preliminary data, in the first eight months of 2011 Ukraine registered an 11.6 percent rise year on year in its finished steel product output to 20.33 million mt and an eight percent increase in its crude steel output to 23.153 million mt.
In January-August, Ukraine saw a 40 percent increase in its steel pipe production to 1.496 million mt and a six percent growth in its pig iron production to 19.11 million mt. On the other hand, the country's production of metallurgical coke went up by seven percent year on year to 13.03 million mt during the first eight months of 2011.
In its iron ore segment, in January-August 2011 Ukraine produced 52.78 million mt of iron ore and 43.58 million mt of iron ore concentrate - up three percent and two percent respectively compared to the same period last year.
Meanwhile, according to the data released by the Ukrainian Department of Energy and Coal Industry, in January-August of the current year Ukraine's run-of-mine coal production rose by 9.8 percent compared to the same period of last year, increasing to 54.05 million mt.
In the given period, Ukraine produced 37.44 million mt of power-generating coal, up 14 percent year on year, and 16.61 million mt of coking coal, up 1.4 percent year on year.
