According to the preliminary data, in the first eleven months of 2008 Ukraine registered a ten percent decline year on year in both its finished steel product and crude steel outputs, to 29.592 million metric tons and 35.076 million metric tons respectively.
During the given period, Ukraine saw an eight percent decrease in its steel pipe production to 2.236 million metric tons and a ten percent reduction in its pig iron production to 29.317 million metric tons. On the other hand, the country's production of metallurgical coke went down by four percent year on year to 17.977 million mt during the first eleven months of 2008.
In its iron ore segment, in January-November 2008 Ukraine produced 67.535 million metric tons of iron ore and 53.236 million metric tons of iron ore concentrate - both down five percent compared to January-November 2007.
During the period in question, scrap supplies to the Ukrainian steelmakers went down by 12 percent year on year to 5.609 million mt.
