According to the preliminary data issued by the Ministry of Industrial Policy of Ukraine, in January-February 2010 Ukraine registered an 11 percent increase year on year in its finished steel product output to 4.514 million mt and a 12 percent rise in its crude steel output to 5.069 million mt.
In the first two months of 2010, Ukraine saw a 15 percent increase in its pig iron production to 4.42 million metric tons and 14 percent growth in its coke output to 2.885 million metric tons, both compared to the same period last year. On the other hand, in January-February 2010 the country's production of steel pipes went down by two percent year on year to 209,000 metric tons, while its output of hardware increased by nine percent year on year to 33,000 metric tons.
In its iron ore segment, in January-February this year Ukraine produced about 12.325 million metric tons of iron ore and 9.993 million metric tons of iron ore concentrate - up 39 percent and 40 percent respectively compared to the same period last year. In addition, during the period in question the country's agglomerate production amounted to 6.274 million mt - up 15 percent, while its pellet production totaled 3.576 million mt - up 30 percent, both compared to the data for January-February 2009.
Scrap deliveries to domestic steel producers increased in January-February 2010 by 17 percent year on year to 676,000 mt.
