Ukraine issues 2008 production results

According to the preliminary data, in 2008 Ukraine registered a 13 percent decline year on year in both its finished steel and crude steel outputs, to 31.493 million metric tons and 37.107 million metric tons respectively.

During the given period, Ukraine saw a six percent decrease in its steel pipe production to 2.456 million metric tons and a 13 percent reduction in its pig iron production to 30.982 million metric tons. On the other hand, the country's production of metallurgical coke went down by five percent year on year to 19.465 million mt in 2008.

In its iron ore segment, in 2008 Ukraine produced 71.721 million metric tons of iron ore and 56.696 million metric tons of iron ore concentrate - both down seven percent compared to 2007.

During the period in question, scrap supplies to the Ukrainian steelmakers went down by 17 percent year on year to 5.824 million mt.
