According to the preliminary data, in 2007 Ukraine increased its finished steel products output by five percent and its crude steel output also by five percent year on year to 36.17 million metric tons and 42.83 million metric tons respectively. Meanwhile, during the period in question, Ukraine's pig iron production rose eight percent to 35.65 million metric tons, compared to 2006.
During the given period, Ukraine saw a one percent decrease in its steel pipe production to 2.604 million metric tons but a five percent increase in its coke production to 20.143 million metric tons.
In its iron ore segment, in 2007 Ukraine produced 77.43 million metric tons of iron ore - up six percent, including 60.97 million metric tons of iron ore concentrate - up seven percent, 22.374 million metric tons of pellets - up seven percent, and 49.743 million metric tons of agglomerate - up five percent, all compared to 2006.
In addition, during 2007 scrap supplies to the Ukrainian steel mills stood at the level of 2006, that is totaling seven million metric tons.
