SteelOrbis has learned that the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has reimposed a five percent import duty on steel products. However the import duty is not applicable for the country's cut and bend plants which import rebar for further processing and use as a raw material. In addition, the member-states of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf (GCC) are excused from this duty. A five percent import duty on steel products was present in UAE since some time. However, the government decided not to apply it during last year.
